1. What is the exhibition? It shows a combination from bands and artists that have played in Portsmouth from the earliest of the 50s to the 2000s, it gives you detail about the tracks they've sung, and in some cases it gives you a brief overview on them.
2. What were the best parts of the exhibition? For me there were many good aspects, however the best and most interesting part was finding out about bands or artists that I didn't know much about before I went to Guildhall.
3. What did I learn about music in Portsmouth, that I didn't know before the visit? Finding out how many famous artists have played in the town, then finding out information about them.
4. How could this help my current graphics project? It can help my design when it comes to thinking outside the box, and coming up with an idea that is unique and has a meaning behind it. Some of the pieces of art I saw were authentic and cool to the artist and that spread across to their audience, also having a diverse background can help you be successful when it comes to designing.
5. People should visit the exhibition because it widens your knowledge on famous artists and bands, it also has a verity of unique pieces of art work which can give you inspiration for your work.
My experience of Portsmouth Guildhall was fairly decent, I saw many top bands and artists that I didn't know played in Portsmouth. I saw a huge contrast in pieces of art and that was expected as every individual or group have a different persona which can be influenced by others or the latest trend, and you can see a huge difference from music a decade or more ago to now. Furthermore I took some key knowledge away from my trip I learnt that music is huge in Portsmouth and that some of the biggest names have played in Portsmouth. I've also seen that music is huge to many people worldwide not just in Portsmouth, there were many cool props there that have been given by the musicians so fans can come and see some cool props that can vary from instruments to a signed photo.

Survey report
From my survey which was put onto the college newsroom for people in our class to fill out, I gathered important information which will help improve my final design. Majority of people listened to pop more than any other genre of music. From gathering this information I will consider basing my music magazine of mainly pop music as it is the most listened to therefore it will sell the most.
In my survey I asked a verity of questions, there were 10 questions for people to fill out. From the second question from my survey I gathered that all people read a music magazine, and the most popular from the options was NME, this wasn't a surprise as it is a well known music magazine which has established themselves over the years. Q and Mojo only received one vote each.
One of the key factors in making my target audience buy my music magazine would involve having artists/bands that are popular now or are a music legend that may not be alive anymore, so I had to narrow it down so I asked what era of music do you prefer and the outcome was that the majority of people prefer current music, however this was expected as majority of people like pop music and pop music isn't known for it's only songs and is more for what is trending at this time.
Another question involved people answering if they read articles on bands/artists. And 75% of people said they did, this is a good piece of information to get as I can include an article on a band and an artist in my music magazine. The feedback I got from this specific question was good as the people who voted also gave me some names on who they did read the articles on. There were many artists and bands who I could mention, but for me the most recognisable were Lady Gaga, Ed Sheeran, Queen B and Green day.
62% of people said they haven't been to a festival however they said they would like to go to one in the near future. The people who voted yes said where they went, this included V festival, Reading, hyde park and Download. This could help out while deciding what to add around the front cover.
Majority of people listen to music on their phone, with 87% of people voting for phone this is most likely due to music apps you can download and listen to your music while you're out at work or college. Only 13% of people said they listen to music on a tablet this is probably because it's not easy to carry around. And surprisingly no one listens to music on a computer.
I got a mix response from people saying they download music illegally or they buy it, or they do both, most people said they do both this is because people use apps like spotify and apple Imusic and then people download it from YouTube so they can put their music onto other devices.
When asked about how much they listen to music the responses were all too much or all the time, this is good as I can tell people will be interested in a music magazine, as long as I base my music magazine on what the majority like. So I have a bigger audience to aim for.
Overall I am happy with the feedback I received, and there were only a few surprises, and that was mainly down to me expecting people to vote for what I like rather than what they liked. I was naive before hand, however the results I got back will help me chose the right genre and other topics related to music that will have a bigger audience.

Photography proposal
For my photography assignment we had to choose one of ten titles these were. Love, life, power, freedom, urban culture. the effects of weather, celebrating diversity, making a living, the build up and saying goodbye. Once we have chosen from the list we we have to take 10 practice photos to see what will need improving for when it comes to getting my final pictures, from experimenting before hand with the rule of thirds, aperture, and ISO these will effect my images so I have to contemplate these factors while prepping and taking my final picture. As I've chosen weather. The location will be Southsea as it's easy enough for me to go to via the bus. And there are many good times for me to go their, I don't have a set place at Southsea as then it gives me a wider range of places to choose from. I have chosen weather as there is no limits when it comes to weather as any form of weather is fine, although if it's raining and I can get the right shot it will potentially be the better choice of weather. I wont need any models in my pictures as I don't want that to take the make my photo look more professional due to the setting and it's all dependent on if it's sunny, cloudy or raining. This could be problematic so before I go out and take my photos I will need to check the weather forecast to see what day is best, then I can book out the camera equipment from college on the day I have chosen.
The equipment I will use will be from the college it will be a Canon camera, which allows me to take the best possible picture required for this assignment. To avoid camera shake I will take a tripod which would be useful if I need to get a shot that includes me to get a lot of the location in or if I need to set a timer on the camera this will then avoid any possible camera shake.
The first thing I will do once I've collected the camera is to make sure there is enough battery life as I don't want to get to my location to find out the battery is flat, I'll also check to see if the memory card is in the camera as well. These are standard processes to make sure the equipment I have is correct and good to use. Once I've done these I will set the camera to manual that will allow me to control the zoom, and focus mainly when taking my picture. It allows more freedom for myself taking the picture as otherwise if it's on automatic the camera will chose the settings that they think is more suitable to my lighting or zoom.
The camera angles will vary from a wide selection, middle shot, long shot, extreme long shot and close up. I will take a mixture of all camera angles to give me a verity of different pictures and I can then chose the best one from them, however I think a long shot will be most likely the best as I've researched other weather based images and the best seem to have the weather as the main focus if that's rain or clouds then a little be of scenery which can make the image you've taken stand out more to the eye.
To control hard and soft light I will have to adapt to the lighting and the sizing of an object that could possibly be in the way of my shot, however with weather I may get away with it as there shouldn't be anything to cause a reflection or shadows.

methods report
There are two types of research I could possible use to gather valuable information for my music magazine. Primary research is the first of the two types, to gather information from primary research you have to go out and get the information. This can include questionnaires, surveys and focus groups, the positive to all these methods are that it is recent where with secondary it isn't always new information. However with that in mind there are also disadvantages to primary research, it is very time consuming and if you needed to get feedback quickly these methods would not be suitable. There is also a high chance the feedback you get back will be in accurate as it can be other biased or people are just giving an answer as they have to. So when it comes to primary research you must take precautions when gathering information.
Secondary research is free to access as the information has already been gathered, the methods include, books, internet and newspapers. These are more reliable methods than primary research however you can find the exact same flaws in these as you can primary. However these methods are easier to access and they are free, as you can access these on the internet. where if you wanted to create a survey you might have to sign up and pay monthly to create one.
Primary and secondary work well together and if you use the right balance they can give you valuable information that you need, so for my methods I will use a variety this will give me a balance between quantitative and qualitative data.
I have used both primary and secondary research for my music magazine, as you can see here I have created a survey which is a form of primary research that I have used to gather information out from my target audience, this gives me a mixture of both recent and old information related to my music magazine. Therefore I can conclude what the most popular choices after I've gathered enough information from primary and secondary research.
